Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)

A theoretical form of artificial intelligence that possesses the ability to understand, learn, and apply knowledge across a wide range of tasks at a level equal to or exceeding human intelligence.

Explanation

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), often referred to as 'Strong AI,' represents a milestone in computer science where a machine can perform any intellectual task that a human being can. Unlike Narrow AI, which is specialized for specific functions like image recognition or language translation, AGI would demonstrate cross-domain competency, autonomous reasoning, and the ability to generalize knowledge from one context to another. While current AI systems excel in specific niches, AGI remains a theoretical goal, with researchers debating whether it requires consciousness, self-awareness, or entirely new architectural paradigms beyond current deep learning models.
