technological singularity

A hypothetical future point in time at which technological growth becomes uncontrollable and irreversible, resulting in unfathomable changes to human civilization.

Explanation

The technological singularity is a theoretical threshold triggered by the development of artificial superintelligence (ASI). It posits that an upgradable intelligent agent could enter a 'runaway reaction' of self-improvement cycles, with each new and more intelligent generation appearing more and more rapidly, causing an intelligence explosion and resulting in a powerful superintelligence that, qualitatively, far surpasses all human intelligence. This shift would fundamentally alter the course of human history, making the future beyond that point unpredictable and incomprehensible to current human minds. Key drivers include advancements in neural networks, quantum computing, and recursive self-improvement algorithms.
